Job Opening - Library Director

 

General Description

The Nashville Public Library, located in Nashville, Illinois, is seeking a Library Director.  This is a 40-hour per week position.  An ideal candidate will have knowledge in the following areas:  public library administration; library automation; technical services; personnel management; program development, administration and evaluation; technology and related applications; strong community involvement; and the coordination of Friends of the Library activities.  The library director must also possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

The Nashville Public Library is a city library, located in the county seat of Washington County.  City population, as of the last census, is 3,258 people.  Library staff includes one full-time employee (the library director) and three part-time employees. 

 

Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree is required with at least three years of experience in library service.  A master’s degree in Library Science or an L.T.A. (Library Technical Assistant) degree or certificate is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements

The following physical requirements are desirable to this position. 

  •  Stand for at least two hours

  • Be able to bend, kneel, sit, stand, and climb a small step stool

  • Have the ability to see and hear patrons, both in-person and on the telephone

  • Be able to see and read a computer screen and be able to type and scan materials into the computer

  • Lift at least 25 pounds

  • Push a cart of at least 50 pounds
